Southern Concrete Services provides specialists repairs to large residential tower block
Working as a specialist sub-contractor for CG Fry, Southern Concrete Services are currently undertaking concrete repairs to a residential block of flats in Westbourne, Dorset.
New cladding required after changes to building regulations
Sovereign Housing Association won approval from Bournemouth council to replace the cladding following the recent changes in building regulations following the Grenfell disaster.
There were health and safety concerns regarding the existing cladding on Westbourne Heights, so the existing cladding is being replaced with a new product.
Removal of cladding reveals structural damage
The removal of existing cladding from the exterior of the flats, however, unveiled further defects to the building’s concrete structure.
Our specialist knowledge and experience were called upon after both the client and the project’s Structural Engineer questioned initial survey findings by the original sub-contractor.
Our team stepped in, undertaking further surveys to all the exposed elevations. Working closely under the instruction of the Structural Engineer, we then produced detailed plans for all repair works.
Southern Concrete Services now completing repairs to vertical cracks
Working from cradles rather than the usual scaffolding, Southern Concrete’s workforce are now completing crack stitching using epoxy mortars to the vertical cracks.
High levels of Health and Safety as residents remain in place during works
All work is being carried out with residents still in place, therefore requiring our team to adhere to higher levels of health and safety.
