The newly opened Ocean 776 space multi-storey car park in Southampton required the application of over 25,000 Sq m of deck waterproofing and coating systems, as part of the Ocean Village regeneration development. Southern Concrete Services, using Remmers Eco-Line systems, were selected as the best solution for the architect’s stringent performance and environmental requirements.
With the wettest summer on record, installation of the systems presented a challenge, however, with the specialist skills of Southern Concrete Services the job was completed to the satisfaction of the client.
On the intermediate decks of the car park, a water based epoxy resin system with polymer beads to provide slip resistance was applied. The turning circles on each deck were reinforced by using an additional thickness of the material, extended and broadcast with quartz aggregates, prior to applying the seal coat. On the exposed top decks, where additional ability to accommodate thermal movement with elastic crack bridging properties was required, a polyurethane based deck coating system was applied and reinforced with polyester fleece. This provided additional crack bridging with restraint, as well as the ultimate in waterproofing performance.
This successful project at Ocean Village multi-storey car park has been awarded ParkMark® status through
the police approved ‘Safer Parking Scheme’ and ‘New Car Park of the Year’ by the British Parking Association.
